ARISE HOME

“For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise SPRING UP before all nations.”

Isaiah 61:11

Share hope through the ARISE HOME!

Eighteen young girls (ages 8-17) live in the Arise Home in Delhi, India. Before the Arise Home, these girls rummaged in trash looking for food. They eeked out an existence in a slum where they experienced various forms of abuse, hunger, and no education. Today, they receive the care, love, and support all children need in the context of a home community. Now, they thrive in academics, athletics, dance, and art. They also enjoy the freedom the which Indian constitution guarantees as they follow Jesus Christ.

The Girl-Child Vulnerability

Indian girls from economically poor environments are considered the most vulnerable in all of India.

In India, 37% of the population lives below the poverty line. Children below the poverty line often live at a higher risk of malnutrition, trafficking, verbal and physical abuse, and a lack of education.

Because a person’s worldview forms most between the ages of 4 and 14, a positive environment of hope can be life-changing.

10/40 Connections has worked with the Arise Home since 2004. We seek to provide a quality education for these girls as well as opportunities to grow in every aspect of their lives. Due to their difficult pasts, 10/40 Connections and our partners believe a quality education in a Christian school will offer these girls every opportunity to experience deeper healing and restoration.

These girls now excel in academics, athletics, dance, and are quite sincere in their faith!

What is it like in the Arise Home?

The Arise Home bursts with energy as the girls live with one another in community. Each school day they wake at 5:00 in the morning. They get dressed, have breakfast, and pray for ten minutes. Their bus comes by 6:40 and they divide into various schools based on their ages. After school, they have a snack, rest, and play until they begin their homework. Some girls receive extra tutoring. After homework, the girls eat dinner and then sing and pray. At 9:00, it’s off to bed!

Recently, the older girls began to take the initiative to lead out in family devotions.

When there is a holiday, the girls play at the park down the road, make crafts, or play inside together. They also help with the chores around the house – washing dishes, cleaning, sweeping, and mopping. Each year 10/40 Connections seeks to provide the girls with an annual outing where they go into the hills, enjoy personal enrichment courses, experience deeper discipleship, and cool off from the summer heat!

Though there are house parents, the older girls look after their younger sisters. The family atmosphere of laughter and arguing bounces from the walls, but the environment enables girls to not only survive but thrive.
